Greetings all. There’s been a lot of discussion about artificial intelligence of late and I know we have that conference up-and-coming in a couple of days. Here is something that was shared in a recent faculty technology section. Notebook LM from Google actually allows users to upload an article or some such and create a PODCAST using AI.
If you like to reinforce your learning with audio files, this just might be super useful!
Here’s an example from our class readings:

Prompt: Create an image that illustrates a blog post about artificial intelligence, turning an article into a podcast from the library and information science field
Thanks to INFO 200 Instructor Kali Akers Gifford for the audio file from Notebook LM!
This is so interesting! I need to look more into this tool because, as you mentioned, it could definitely be beneficial in helping me better comprehend certain concepts. As someone who loves podcasts, I can also see this as another great way to support my learning.
@alishacosta I’m talking with the other 200 instructors especially one of our new ones. Who’s very excited about this option. We are thinking we might pull a super good article from each module and also make it available as that podcast version. I think that might be kind of interesting for all the students in 200. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
That sounds like a great idea! I think pulling a key article from each module and offering it as a podcast version would be really interesting for students. Excited to see how it turns out!
I’ve been pretty skeptical about AI the last couple of years because of its environmental impact, but especially because the impact it has on the quality of work my high schoolers have been producing. However, I also recently learned about this new tool and once I started to play around with it I thought, THIS is how we should be using AI. It’s also really cool how the hosts will make connections to other important issues or events to essentially have a conversation about the sources you drop in there. They sounds natural and not like two robots talking to each other!
@lolorena thank you for this comment and I’m so glad the notebook LM podcast option resonates with you. And it is so cool how they take an article and turn it into a conversation. I listen to a lot of podcasts and I think I’m i I do some of my best learning from listening, so how interesting would it be to have more of our resources in this format?
