I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with keeping track of all my used and potential citations. I recall in some tutorial or training that there were two suggested citation trackers. Does anyone remember what those were?

Happy Saturday, @Michael! Quick question about the LIS Model Research Summary:
For the summary of other scholars who have used the chosen model/theory in their research, should I be focused more on applications of the model to various subjects? or developments/contributions to the model in the literature?
Hope that question makes sense!
-
@tlueders It does make sense and I would say you can do both or one or the other. One of the interesting things about models and studies that utilize the model, as you will see changes or suggested changes from scholars.
-
Excellent 🙂 thank you!

Hi, @michael, I just have a quick question about the #LISmodelresearchsummary. Is there a wrong theory or model to choose for our particular group? I know that some may be better choices for particular communities, especially as you noted in the lecture this week, but does that mean that we can’t choose a different one if we feel like we find a…[Read more]

@awilliams1998 Great question. I would say choose the one that you feel best suits your community. This part of the assignment — Describe how the model or theory provides a lens for understanding the information behaviors of your chosen community — allows you to share why you think it fits. If you see a connection – go for it!

Okay, thank you so much!

Hello. I have a question about Blog #2. Do we just turn in what we wrote in to Canvas, or are we also suppose to post it on our WordPress blog?
-
@christinew12 Under the Assignments menu option there is a page devoted to Submissions and grading rubrics:
Submit each Blog Report URL to Canvas by the due date for grading.
-
Thank you.

Hello. When I tried to click on Article Human Information Behavior under Week 3 Things to Explore, I could not get to it. When I clicked on the view online, I was taken to a page that has EBSCOhost Database: Library & Information Science Source Publications on it, as well as the words, Publication Details For “Informing Science.” Any ideas on what…[Read more]

Hi everyone – I am interested in looking into how deaf or hard-of-hearing folks share and seek information – a preliminary search into this on our Library and Information Source Database showed few peer-reviewed results, which surprises me since I feel like libraries often discuss accessibility in resources and programming for deaf patrons. I may…[Read more]

@doremimimimi I have had successful papers on the Deaf Information Community. I recall there are some LIS articles looking at the Deaf as well the broader category of disabled individuals.

@christinew12 I think using Fisher and Fulton as a way of framing your community description is a good idea. You might also share a bit about the types of information your community uses, looks for, etc. The Tiny House example for Blog Report #2 is a good one to look at for…[Read more]

Hi all, I am interested in looking at how people learn indigenous languages, and specifically wanted to research those who are learning Quechua. I’m still wondering if I should focus specifically on Quechua learning in the States, or if I should broaden the scope and look at both Quechua learning in North and South America. In a similar vein, I…[Read more]

@ectaina I would suggest focusing on the Quechua learning community broadly. My thought is you will have to pull in LIS studies of language learners, learners in general, etc. It might be good to do some preliminary searches in the databases. See this for links to search…[Read more]

Hello:) I am thinking about Children’s Book Publishers as an Info Community. I am curious about how books are selected, trends started and then the power that publishers have over the types of info and availability of info distributed. I am wondering though if this is too broad of a topic?
-
@bookflyer This is interesting. I am not aware of how much published LIS literature there would be on the information behaviors and needs of Children’s Book Publishers. It may be more focused on publishers in general or authors… I have had papers on the info behaviors and needs of authors and artists before. You may want to do some trial s…[Read more]

Hello! I’m thinking of researching teenagers seeking out sex education. I was a bit concerned about finding academic articles on the subject since its a community with concerns over privacy and discretion (and safety, in many cases), but I’m actually finding quite a few. I think libraries have the potential to be an instrumental sex ed resource,…[Read more]

@cmisola This is an important area. There is robust research on info behaviors and seeking of Yes and that includes sex education. LGBTQ+ YAs are also an important subgroup…and somewhat vulnerable these days. Agree with you about libraries serving them.

Hi Laura! I had Paperfile and Zotero written down from INFO 203 — are these what you were looking for?
@aroset Yes, thank you! I couldn’t remember if that info was from 203 or 200. Have you used either of them?
Jumping in here! I’ve been using Zotero since my undergrad and I LOVE it. The browser extension means you can save sources with one click and sort them into whatever nested folders you like, and the latest update acts as a PDF reader so you can read and annotate your sources within the app. 10/10
@tlueders That’s very helpful. Thanks for the recommendation, Taylor. I’ll try out Zotero.
