Learning Experiences and Goals

Most Memorable Learning Experience

In high school I was going through a particularly rough time both at home and at school. One of my teachers reached out to me and instead of berating me for falling behind or making threats if I did not turn in sufficient work, he told me he knew my potential and asked if there was any way he could help so that my work reflected my talent. His belief in me and his willingness to not only teach by guide me helped me reignite my passion to learn and my faith in the education system. We still keep in touch to this day, and the lessons he taught me inspire me to never give up.

Online Learning

I tend to gravitate more towards lectures and audio where I can listen to the concepts I need to learn rather than just reading a textbook and teaching myself, but online learning provides accessible learning to a full time work schedule so I hope courses in the MLIS bridge those two teaching strategies to provide a well rounded education.

Learning Goals

I hope to challenge myself to learn new concepts in the Library and Information fields that I do not already know or work with regularly. I happen to work as a Library Assistant at a public library where I get to work at the circulation desk, youth services desk, reference desk, and in shelving, weeding, and program implementation. I hope to learn about archives and special materials so that I can have as well rounded of a resume as possible when I venture out into the world post-grad.
