Hi everyone!
I guess I’ll begin by saying I’m really excited for this research project and how I feel it will help inform the work that I do currently. I work for a prison education project that includes a variety of different programs for both currently and formerly incarcerated scholars, and part of my work here is with building orientation pro…[Read more]

Hello hello!
I listen to a variety of podcasts, but excited to learn about more! Here are a few of my favorite
1. Oversharing: a therapist and her sister (host of a few other podcasts) talk about different relationship dynamics, trends, and answer listener questions. Everything from friends, family, to romantic relationships
2. Binchtopia: hosted…[Read more] -

Hi! I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start. Finally diving into Module 1 and trying to brainstorm what information community to dedicate my semester to. I haven’t researched too much on either yet, but I’ve been mulling over two. First community I was considering is Houseless Folks and the second is Homeschool Families. I currently work at…[Read more]

@manf I have had successful papers on the unhoused information community. There is good research in LIS for sure. Also some notable authors have published books on services to the community. https://homelesslibrary.com

@trases I’ve had a number of successful papers on this community. Not necessarily incarcerated learners but those who are incarcerated. What is interesting about this is most of the library and information. Science research on this community comes through the lens of the librarians who serve the community. It’s a much different thing than many of…[Read more]
Thank you so much for your feedback! I’ve been looking at JSTOR’s offline solution and Wikimedia (their proposal and ongoing push), and am beginning with the text, “Library Services and Incarceration: Recognizing Barriers, Strengthening Access,” by Jeanie Austin.
I’m wondering if my focus on “incarcerated learners,” is too narrow? I chose this…[Read more]
@trases I think you would be fine just to say your information community are those who are incarcerated, but still focus maybe a section or two on incarcerated learners. I think the research you find will be mostly abroad or look at information access for those who are incarcerated.
@michael that sounds right, thank you so much!
