Blog Report #2 – Information Community Description

In this blog report, you will describe the Information Community you are choosing to explore for the course and the research paper. You must utilize Fisher and Fulton’s chapter from Module 1 and use their definition and characteristics of information communities to describe your choice to the class.

Getting Started

  • Review the resources in Module 1. Be sure to review Fisher and Fulton’s chapter on information communities.
  • Consider:
    • What connections do you see between your chosen community and the definition of information communities?
    • What other readings and resources featured in the lectures do you feel may be useful in exploring this community?
  • Begin to conduct independent research on your chosen community.
  • Take a look at the report #2 samples in the Assignment Examples.
  • Consider if you want to use links, images, or other multimedia in your blog report. If you will be using them, start to gather those resources.

Assignment Requirements

  • The blog report should clearly identify your choice of information community. You must demonstrate how Fisher and Fulton’s characteristics of information communities apply to your community.
  • The blog must be shared on your iSchool WordPress blog site.
  • Blog reports must be at least 500 words in length, including references. While there is no requirement for maximum word count, a word count of 1000 or less is encouraged. 
  • Any references should be in APA 7th edition format.
  • Hanging indents are difficult to add in WordPress, so are not required for blogs

  • Required components evaluates whether the blog report has a solid organizational foundation and includes all required elements stated in the assignment. You should clearly identify a choice of information community while also framing that community using each of Fisher and Fulton’s five characteristics of Information Communities.
  • Mechanics assesses the quality of writing and technical aspects of the blog report. Your report’s delivery is polished, clean, and shows evidence of significant effort. The report is engaging and follows a logical thought process. If images, links, or other media are included, they are used thoughtfully. The report is grammatically correct, lacking spelling, syntax, or punctuation errors; APA 7 referencing is technically correct in the narrative and the reference list. 
  • Comprehension and analysis assesses your broad understanding of the ideas and ability to integrate the ideas into your work. You should demonstrate a solid understanding of Information Communities by thoroughly analyzing Fisher and Fulton’s five characteristics of Information Communities, integrating convincing parallels between aspects of their community and the model. Your blog report shows a full understanding of the Fisher and Fulton model and evidence of significant effort. 
  • Connections to course content and information science evaluates how you use INFO 200 materials and LIS theories as a framework for your ideas. You should fully incorporate each Fisher and Fulton characteristic into the blog report. You should demonstrate an ability to frame the information community in the context of the information communities model.

Before Submitting Your Assignment

  • Spell and grammar check your report. 
  • Take a break from blogging and come back later to manually proofread your report. Since your reports will be shared on the open web, they should be well-organized, evidence-based, and professionally written.
  • Check that any links or multimedia in your blog are working correctly.

Submitting Your Assignment

Publish your blog report on your WordPress blog. Submit the URL for blog report 2 to Canvas.
