In this blog report, you will consider how global trends for libraries from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) impact your chosen information community. You will examine trends from the IFLA Trend Report and combine them with course materials and your own research to create a scenario of how libraries may support your community in the future.
Getting Started
- Download and review the IFLA Trend Report 2024
- Identify some global trends in the executive summary that you’d like to explore.
- Read the overview of those global trends.
- Read a scenario as an example of incorporating the global trends.
- Consider a similar scenario using one or more global trends that could apply to your community.
- Review Module 12 resources.
- Search for articles and professional literature related to an IFLA trend and your community or a related community. Consider:
- Does this global trend relate to course materials and information theories you have explored this semester?
- Are there libraries that offer programs or services reflecting the global trend? Consider libraries outside of the United States for a global perspective.
- What challenges or opportunities does the research present for applying this trend to your community?
- Ways that you can share your discoveries and observations in hopes that your experience can prepare and even educate fellow information professionals.
- Cite course resources and your own independent research. You can include research studies as well as professional literature.
- Consider whether you want to use links, images, or other multimedia in your blog report. If you will be using them, start to gather those resources.
- Write this blog report to fit into your research paper’s Discussion section, perhaps under a heading such as “Future Library Trends for Citizen Scientists.” This is not self-plagiarism!
