Hey all —
We’ve made some updates to the research paper assignment to improve clarity and consistency. The helper document has now been fully incorporated into the assignment itself, ensuring a smoother flow across the assignment pages and it now includes grading criteria.
The only significant change is an adjustment to the word count. Previously, the upper limit was 3,500 words, excluding some sections of the paper. Now, the word limit has been adjusted to 5,000 words, including everything in the paper. This change ensures that the word count reported in Canvas accurately reflects the full assignment, making grading more straightforward.
Most of the other updates are minor refinements to formatting and language for clarity. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
The Research Paper, including the title page, abstract, and reference list, should be a minimum of 4500 words in length and no more than 5000 words. In our field, word count is critical for publishing and grant writing.

Michael in his kilt:
Thanks for the clarification, I had wondered how to accurately judge the count. And I am a kilt enthusiast (own 2 “cut” kilts and one full, and even a utili-kilt) so thanks for the example!
@georgerothrock Very cool! I have a tartan kilt and black wool blend kilt from a kilt maker in Edinburgh. I put a photo in the post above. I wore the kilt for errands and a visit to my barber in Traverse City this past week.
Awesome! Great color – I have two – one from each side of my family. Been wearing them for all occasions for a long time.

@georgerothrock Thanks! I wore my tartan and all the accessories for a Christmas program in December. It was so much fun and I had some nice folks chat with me about it. I also wore it a few times to my barber and some of the fellows in the shop, we’re very interested
