@staceynerdin I lived part time in Oak Park, IL before taking the job with SJSU. I am so taken with the PNW… would move in a second if possible (home prices, etc)

@thegab2022 Parents of young ones would be a good choice as would your other thoughts with varying degrees of research available. The YT guitar video angle could be broadened out to the YT community or similar as well. Agree with @jmurphy about “ready to read.”

@jmurphy I ❤️ what you are doing to get library cards to students. I agree…I think your work in this class focused on the communities you serve could be useful. I would suggest rural teenagers as a top choice. Families would work too. For teens you could pull from a rich amount of LIS research related to young people’s info behaviors and needs.…[Read more]

@carlygove Skaters would probably fall into Serious Leisure in the LIS field. Queer Youth is a compelling and important community right now and there is strong LIS research out there. I have had many successful papers on this and related communities.

@marlinda Both of these are good choice. There is some interesting LIS research on the area of fan communities of all kinds including music fans. I have had many successful papers on fan groups. The community of those with chronic diseases also has compelling literature. You will find it in the are of health or medical information seeking and…[Read more]

@mmsosa Yes. If their book is by an expert in the field you are looking at, a chapter is just fine. Monographs are vetted by editors.

@mmsosa This is a super interesting and active community. I would say the LIS literature related to fans and Serious Leisure would work well for your explorations. There are a lot of avenues as you note: movies, TV, games, etc. I think if you took a broad approach it would work well but you could also focus on a specific format too.

@irisbarreto I like this idea. Because the focus of INFO 200 is outward on communities we serve, think about how you might frame the group: information behaviors and needs of comic fans? The library part comes in when you look at how LIS folks are creating collections and services.

@dgriffin Good choice. There is literature devoted to Makers of all kinds and I believe you find some things on the info behaviors of those who create 3D printable items. It’s a super interesting area and libraries have responded with services.

@arthurkolat Yes – on the right track. There is literature out there regarding musicians and their info needs and behaviors. I think you could find applicable studies as well as articles on music librarianship that would round out the exploration.

@csheil All of these seem viable. The one that jumped out at me first was the 🦖 enthusiasts. I say this because citizen scientists have traction in LIS and related fields. Plant folks or animal fosters would work but I don’t think you would find a lot of right on target literature…it would have to be studies of info behaviors in related…[Read more]

“Caregivers and Early Childhood Development” – would this be an appropriate working title? I started to define it as “parents” but thought it could be broadened to be anyone caring for young children, parents, grandparents, daycare providers, even siblings.
@thegab2022 I would aim more for Information Behaviors and Needs of Caregivers of Young Children. Long – but exactly what all the assignments are about. 😀
Got it – that makes sense. Thanks. 🙂
