Blog Report #3 – Information-Seeking Behaviors & Needs

In this blog report, you will report on the information-seeking behavior(s) and information needs of your chosen community. You will utilize theories covered in the course lectures and assigned readings and cite peer-reviewed studies found through your own independent research relating to the information behaviors of your information community you’ve found so far.

Getting Started

  • Review the theoretical framework described in your LIS Model/Theory Research Assignment. You may use the framework in your blog report. Remember, there is no self-plagiarism in INFO 200!
  • Review readings from Module 3 and Module 4.
  • Cite other course resources and your own independent research.
  • Select 2-3 articles to highlight that demonstrate how LIS researchers explore your community. Consider:
    • What methodologies are used to study the group?
    • How does the community use, find, and create information?
    • What theories of information behavior do you see in play?
  • Take a look at the report #3 samples in the Assignment Examples.
  • Consider if you want to use links, images, or other multimedia in your blog report. If you will be using them, start to gather those resources.

Assignment Requirements

  • The blog report should discuss your information community’s information needs and information-seeking behavior. The report should use LIS frameworks and theories, course materials, and peer-reviewed studies.
  • The blog must be shared on your iSchool WordPress blog site.
  • Blog reports must be at least 500 words in length, including references. While there is no requirement for maximum word count, a word count of 1000 or less is encouraged.
  • Any references should be in APA 7th edition format.
  • Hanging indents are difficult to add in WordPress, so are not required for blogs

  • Required components evaluates whether the blog report has a solid organizational foundation and includes all required elements stated in the assignment. You should present a fully developed information community and discuss that community’s information needs and information-seeking behavior. You should use models or theories, course materials, and peer-reviewed studies to expand upon the community’s information needs and information-seeking behaviors.
  • Mechanics assesses the quality of writing and technical aspects of the blog report. Your report’s delivery is polished, clean, and shows evidence of significant effort. The report is engaging and follows a logical thought process. If images, links, or other media are included, they are used thoughtfully. The report is grammatically correct, lacking spelling, syntax, or punctuation errors; APA 7 referencing is technically correct in the narrative and the reference list.
  • Comprehension and analysis assesses your broad understanding of the ideas and ability to integrate the ideas into your work. You should demonstrate a broad understanding of their information community’s information needs and information-seeking behaviors, and integrates parallels between these and models or theories, course materials, or peer-reviewed studies into the blog report.
  • Connections to course content and information science evaluates how you use INFO 200 materials and LIS theories as a framework for your ideas. You should incorporate fully developed use of models or theories, course materials, and peer-reviewed studies to frame and support the information needs and information-seeking behaviors of their information community.

Before Submitting Your Assignment

  • Spell and grammar check your report. 
  • Take a break from blogging and come back later to manually proofread your report. Since your reports will be shared on the open web, they should be well-organized, evidence-based, and professionally written.
  • Check that any links or multimedia in your blog are working correctly.

Submitting Your Assignment

Publish your blog report on your WordPress blog. Submit the URL for blog report 3 to Canvas.
