@agroves I like your topic, and it sounds like it will help you for your future career! One thing I thought of is to also research about “major life transitions” or “career transitions”, and it might lead you to more insight on your information community. It might extend your search some more, but it might also retrieve info from other disciplines…[Read more]

@michael I’ve been focusing on the Twitch streaming community, and I believe I found my information community. I like how I can focus on both “streamers” and the “viewers”, and it is a rather new area of research for information behaviors. Thank you for suggesting to look into Hektor!

Hi everyone. I’m leaning more into the intersections of leisure and information seeking behavior. My initial community of hardcore video game players was interesting initially, but after going down the rabbit hole of other leisure activities, I ended up going two, more personally exciting, directions:
(1) The live-streaming community, like…[Read more]-
@hellodaniel either of these communities would be very interesting to focus on. For the live streaming community, you might have to pull from the broader literature, devoted to information behaviors and needs within social media, communities or creators communities. That would offer a lot of different studies to pull from to inform your view of…[Read more]

Thank you for your advice. I’ll research Hektor’s information activities, as well as topics on leisure and fandoms.
Currently, I’m looking into competitive players of Pokemon video games. (There are less research specifically on my topic, compared to Pokemon Go. I might change it later.) I have been playing around with my search terms (“hardcore…[Read more]

Hi Asia. You make really great points! I’m definitely just a fan of the video games and the lore, and I could definitely look at other subcommunities like competitive players or Pokemon Go players. Those two are the ones that I’m more interested in. Thanks for helping me think things through!

Hi everyone! I’m thinking of researching the Pokemon gaming community. My idea of doing this is definitely tied to nostalgia, specifically the RPG aspect of the mainline games. The Pokemon franchise, of course, has gotten older and has evolved to suit different demographics, all of whom have interact with information in different ways.
Anyways,…[Read more]

Hey, Daniel! Are you an all-around Pokemon super fan? Or are you specifically into the videogames, but maybe not the trading cards? Or not playing competitively? How about the anime series? As my spouse is constantly reminding me, “Pokemon is the most popular franchise in the world,” so it has a lot of subcommunities with different information…[Read more]

@hellodaniel I like your idea. My first thought that came into my head was a framework, utilizing serious leisure as a way to understand the information behaviors and needs of Pokémon fans. There is also some burgeoning research on fan communities in general usually for fans, we look at serious leisure and framework such as Hektor’s information…[Read more]

Hey everyone! I haven’t listened to podcasts in a while. (I think I’m currently in my audiobook “season”.) However, I do have these go-to podcasts:
– Las Culturistas. A comedy, pop culture podcast hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. They end their episodes with “I Don’t Think So, Honey” where they do a one-minute diatribe about something in pop…[Read more] -
